Jason Taporco, MD, MPH

Sports Medicine Fellow

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Wichita, KS, but trained in Kansas City, KS then Denison, TX!

Why did you choose UA Sports Medicine?

My interview with the University of Arizona was a “Harry Potter and his wand” moment. Not only are there exceptional athlete’s at UA, but the Sports Medicine faculty were equal parts intelligent, kind, and enthusiastic about the field of Sports Medicine.

What are you most excited about for life in Tucson?

Tucson is a very active, outdoorsy community. I’m looking forward to everything that Tucson has to offer from exciting foods and local hangouts to the cycling and backpacking opportunities!

What are your interests or hobbies outside of Medicine?

I’m a competitive bodybuilder that dabbles in powerlifting and CrossFit as well. I still play both sand and court volleyball in my spare time, but I also love to spend time with my two cats.

What are your professional interests within Medicine?

A sporting event is truly something that brings the community together. Whether that’s fans across the nation for a professional team or a small community celebrating homecoming, sports bring people together. Being a part of that community and enabling people both young and old to continue to engage in sports is my desired career path.

Favorite way to spend a day off?

You’ll probably find me somewhere near sun and water, or traveling to a new destination.

Top item on your "Bucket list"?

My current leading item on my bucket list is to go scuba diving!
