Alec Kurtz, MD

I’m originally from Tacoma, WA, but have spent parts of my life in Northern California and Upstate New York. UA Sports Medicine gives me the opportunity to practice a wide range of procedural skills, work in diverse clinical settings, and care for several University of Arizona athletics teams — all while living in a city I love.
I’m especially excited to explore Tucson’s incredible food scene —my favorite spot being Karichimaka and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. I also look forward to spending more time with my wife and her grandparents who live just minutes away. Outside of medicine, I enjoy making ceramics, swimming, hiking, paddle boarding, cycling, walking my dog and cheering on the Diamondbacks. My favorite day off starts with a breakfast burrito and coffee, then takes me outdoors for a hike or paddle on the water, soaking up the sun and scenery all day long.
As a family medicine physician by training, I value the full scope of primary care — including gender-affirming care and reproductive health — and working with patients to reach their personal goals. In sports medicine, I’m passionate about keeping people moving, embracing the idea that exercise is medicine, and as my dear colleague often says, helping patients discover what movements bring them joy.
